  1. Diane Hill Says:

My great-great-great-grandfather was Spencer Shearer b. 1800 in North Carolina who married Elizabeth Whitaker b, May 8, 1806 in North Carolina. She died October 19, 1852 in Cypress, Texas. She is buried in an unmarked grave in Cypress Cemetery. Spencer Shearer died in Feb. 15, 1866 and is buried in a recently marked grave in Cypress Cemetery.

Their son was Spencer Harrison Shearer, my great-great-grandfather b. May 20, 1840. He served in the Civil War and near Knoxville, TN received a wound which he eventually died of Dec. 19, 1878 in Cypress, Texas. He married Angie Sparks of Cypress, Texas and is buried in a marked grave in Cypress Cemetery.

The daughter of Spencer Harrison Shearer and Angie Sparks was Mary E. (Shearer) Hill. She was my great-grandmother. She, too, lived in the Cypress community and is buried in Cypress Cemetery. Her son (my grandfather) was Gary Lewis Hill who lived in Cypress, TX and is buried in Cypress Cemetery.. This information comes from a genealogy which was compiled in the 1930’s and from family knowledge.

    Diane Hill, Dallas, TX
